Along with fall comes cooler weather, Thanksgiving and football. Tailgating is definitely a fall favorite and the perfect way to spend the long Thanksgiving weekend! We’ve compiled a list of suggestions to turn your next tailgate party into a kid-friendly event the entire family can enjoy.

Are you ready to tailgate family-fun style? Here’s 6 tips to get you started:

  1. Keep the food simple, classic and kid-friendly (hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, sandwiches, chicken fingers, etc.). It’s easy to eat fresh fruits and veggies as finger food. Also, stock plenty of easy-to-drink juice boxes and bottles of water. TIP: bring more hydrating liquid than you think you need.

  2. Keep your kiddos busy – bored kids can be whiny and cranky little monsters. Games like Twister if you’re on the grass or a pick-up game of inflatable football. Other options include: Balls, bags, books, word searches and printable, themed coloring pages with crayons. It doesn’t matter what it is, just things the kiddos will enjoy doing. TIP: Think about the same things you pack when traveling, just nothing with little pieces that may get lost.

  3. Set the mood – how about a kid-friendly, family-fun playlist with songs you can sing along too as well as dance around and get excited about the game.

  4. Be prepared – a change of clothes for each kiddo, no matter the age. Really! Also, lots of wipes, hand sanitizer and tissues.

  5. Put them to work – Tiny tots love having a job. They can help set up the games, put chips in bowls, set up the serving area or take taking food orders.

  6. Photo Op – making memories and taking family photos should be fun. Your fall fun tailgating party is the perfect opportunity for both. Set up a photo booth area with game time themed photo props and think of all the silly faces you can make as a family.

  7. Make some shade – like a tent, tarp or umbrella. Plus, sunscreen and water—those items you might forget in the fall or when the weather is a little cooler.
